Swedish VODKACHEESE™
VODKACURRANT™ and VODKAPEPPER™ are rich, 12 month aged Swedish Prästost. Aged with Swedish flavored vodkas, a 400 year tradition, they are wondrously sharp, with a buttery crumble texture blended throughout with sweet currant berry or mild pepper flavor. VODKACURRANT received a Silver Medal at the 1999 London World Cheese Competition.
How it happened ...
“It took two years developing the Currant VodkaCheese (Currant Swedish Cheddar) recipe with fifth generation Swedish cheese artisans in my home town of Falköping. As the first to introduce a cheese infused with Vodka, the new flavor profile I created balances the rich 12 month aged Swedish gourmet cheddar-like prastost cheese with the aromatic Currant flavor spread transported throughout the cheese from the Absolut Kurant® vodka injected during the aging process. The Pepper VodkaCheese (Pepper Swedish Cheddar) was also introduced in 1998. “With Sweden in a recession back then, my small contribution was to help the dairy economy, especially jobs in my home town - and many containers later...”
