How did VOD Gourmet happen? The founder of VOD Gourmet, Ulla Nylin wanted to create cheeses to sell into the United States that observed her Swedish heritage and were “Very Optimistically Different”.
“I grew up in the dairy capital of Sweden where some of the best aged cheeses are produced. For breakfast, my mother used to make our family cheese sandwiches and hot chocolate – never bacon and eggs. Then I would dunk my sandwich into the hot chocolate – like Americans would dunk their donuts into coffee. It was delicious and a tradition.”
Some of the oldest handcrafted cheeses were created in Sweden, by “artisan” cheese crafters in the mid 1800s. “I visited cheese artisans across Sweden, few had ever considered taking their gourmet cheeses to the U.S. The idea was to combine knowledge of Sweden's taste traditions with my understanding of the American gourmet palate to create VodkaCheese with a flavored vodka “twist”.
